PARENTS, PASSION & SALT!
Have you ever had that nagging feeling that you can feel way, deep down in the pit of your stomach, that causes sleepless nights, and you just can’t get it out of your head? Well, that’s what all started the concept of Salty! Well, sort of!
To make a really long story short, my dad had lived for 17 years with COPD (Congestive Obstructive Pulmonary Disease), and lost his battle last year in February. At the time of his passing, my mom was dealing with her own struggle to breathe, due to COPD, and a recent diagnosis of stage 4 lung cancer. To watch someone, especially your loved ones, struggle to do something as natural as breathing, is completely heartbreaking!
As my mom was finishing chemo, and about to start radiation, I stumbled across a post for a Halotherapy salt cave. I had never heard of it, and had no clue what the heck it was. It did intrigue me, though, so I actually opened up the post to check it out!
What the – what? Halotherapy? Salt cave? Salt room? Respiratory diseases and conditions? Okay, I had to check it out! So, I started reading more and more articles about it.
Well…so much for sleep! I couldn’t sleep, because that nagging feeling was there. I’m not sure why, because I had never been to a salt cave or a salt room before. So, I had nothing to go on. Let’s just call it intuition, or divine intervention. I just had that gut feeling that I needed to explore this more, and that I needed to bring this therapy to Rochester, MN – Home to Mayo Clinic, and home to many people who suffer from, or deal with, all the things that salt – who knew? – could help to treat!
So, first thing’s first… I had to check it out for myself. So, I went to one. Then, I decided that I had to go to more! Immediately, my friend and I booked flights the minute we could get away for a long weekend in California.
We went to three Halotherapy businesses while in California. Our minds were blown! There was so much information to take in, so many positive aspects of this therapy… just AMAZING! As I’m taking in all of this information, and having treatments while there, I’m also realizing that the cold that I was starting to get the morning we flew out from Rochester, never actually turned into anything. I felt incredible and refreshed the whole trip! Well, I didn’t feel very good on the flight there, but after my first treatment, about 6 hours after we landed, I noticed a significant difference, and it only got better from there!
Also, I was noticing changes in my skin! Huh? Okay, well, in my research, I had read that Halotherapy is good for skin conditions such as psoriasis, eczema, etc. I did not expect that the annoying, little bumps that I used to get on my elbows from doing a “surgeon’s wash” before and after every massage client for years, would be gone! Gone? G-O-N-E, GONE! Crazy! I know! In fact, my skin and my complexion were glowing! I realized that I looked and felt better than I had in a very long time! I also slept amazingly well in three different hotels! This is not a usual thing for me. I like my own bed!
Wow! Three benefits I personally, physically noticed, and I didn’t even think that I really had conditions that would benefit from Halotherapy!
So long, my good friend, sleep! From the flight back, until I actually had a plan in place to bring Halotherapy to Rochester, sleep was MIA! Well, let’s be honest, I still have many sleepless nights from the excitement of the pending opening of Salty! Every detail keeps me up at night, because I want it to be a place where people will be intrigued enough to try it, comfortable enough to want to come back, and feel like it’s beneficial enough to keep coming back as part of their healthy lifestyle routine!
Unfortunately, my mom lost her battle with lung cancer in October of last year. She never got the chance to try Halotherapy. Had we known about this treatment years ago, my parents may have been able to breathe a little easier every day.
As you can imagine, Salty is very personal to me, and close to my heart! I only hope that by bringing this amazing treatment to Rochester, I will honor my parents’ memories, and will help many others with respiratory conditions, skin conditions and many other symptoms and conditions.
